Franchisee satisfaction

A measure of how content franchisees are with a system, often surveyed. High satisfaction and low churn are strong signals of a healthy network.

What it means

Franchisee satisfaction captures how well the franchisor delivers on its promises, support, marketing, fairness and profitability, from the franchisees' own perspective. Some systems participate in independent satisfaction surveys.

It is one of the best leading indicators of a system's health. Unhappy franchisees precede churn, disputes and reputational damage; satisfied ones renew, expand and refer.

In practice

Look for independent satisfaction data if it exists, but above all, ask existing and former franchisees directly whether they would buy in again, the truest satisfaction signal there is.

A real example

A prospective buyer finds a system scores well on an independent franchisee-satisfaction survey, then confirms it by calling five franchisees who all say they would re-sign.
